The ‘Word’ who was in the beginning - who was with God - and who was God (John 1:1) became incarnated in the womb of the virgin. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14) And the Word was made flesh - commonly expressed by saying that He became "incarnate" - assumes the appearance of man or becomes a man. Was made - this is the same word that is used in John 1:3 "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” It is not simply affirmed that He was flesh, but that He was made flesh – that He had pre-existence as the Word, as God in John 1:1.
