John 3:17 (continues from John 3:16 which is "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.") - distinguishes God’s purpose in sending his Son into the world; so that there is no confusion about the purpose of God’s love. God’s Purpose is Salvation Not Condemnation. (John 3:17-18).

God sent Jesus to redeem humanity, not in wrath against humanity - this is an important context to have in our minds as we ponder about God; (verse 18) as God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world in His wrath. This statement gets easily taken out of its context and erroneously used to advocate that God does not condemn anyone, this verse clarifies why God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world. The world was already condemned. Jesus did not have to come to His creation to condemn it.

In addition, to not believe in the Jesus is to allow ourselves in our condemnation and we have rejected the antidote to death. Belief is not just a mental assent, an acknowledgement or confession, but it is life transformation - which proves our belief. Jesus described it as being “born again” and “born from above.” A new birth has occurred, which is also described as being born of water and the Spirit. This is the new heart..the new life that seeks to obey, trust and desires the ways of the Lord Jesus – live a changed life by faith through the glory of God’s grace.

Jesus did not come to a morally neutral world. He came to a world of darkness already condemned from their sins. As such, God did not send his Son for our condemnation but for our salvation.
