The second step is to be willing to repent – to turn from sin.

Acts 17:30 “Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent,” (Acts 17:30), and to "produce fruit in keeping with repentance" (Matthew 3:8).

Again Jesus said in Luke 13:3 " I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish." Repentance is an integral part of salvation.

Repentance does not mean being sorry for being caught. It is not just being sorry for one’s sin. To repent literally means to have a change of mind towards God and towards sin. It means agreeing with God regarding the truth of one’s own sinfulness. Repentance means not excusing one’s sins or seeking to justify one self, but admitting.

Repentance means to earnestly turn from one’s sins, with all one’s heart, and trust in Jesus Christ alone to save. ”For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.” 2 Corinthians 7:10 While God desires that you to have a penitent, broken heart over your sins, no amount of emotion or lack thereof will make you right with God. You should be sorry for your sins and ashamed of them though. The right kind of sorrow leads to immediate repentance, but mourning alone is not itself repentance.
